What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis employs a naturally occurring state of mind. Neither asleep nor awake, a hypnotic state is characterised by a pleasant feeling of relaxation. Daydreaming is a form of alert hypnosis. For example you may be driving and realise that you have not been taking any notice for miles and miles. Reading a book you may suddenly become aware that you have taken absolutely no notice for the last ten pages. Hypnosis is combined relaxation and focused attention. It is both a normal state and very safe. By allowing yourself to enter into a relaxed state, a skilled therapist can give beneficial suggestions directly to your unconscious mind in order to make long lasting changes to thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
Hypnosis is a very effective way of making contact with our inner unconscious self, which contains both a reservoir of unrecognised potential as well as being the unwitting source of many of our habits and problems.
